Queanbeyan Golf Club

On 12th August 1896, the first recorded game of golf was played in the Queanbeyan area when, according to the Queanbeyan Age of the 15th August 1896, three prominent men in the town, together with several others played an impromptu game on the western side of the river starting from the Glebe Park across the Hayes Estate up to the Courthouse which was beside the present Courthouse in Farrer Place. When land on the eastern side of the river was declared and set aside for public recreation in 1901 and again in 1913 a few hardy souls designed their own course and began to play there on an ad hoc basis. In early 1914 there is history of regular weekend play but with no formal club structure. 13th-FairwayMoves towards the establishment of a formal structure in Queanbeyan commenced in 1924 when a group of interested people met in the house of Mr and Mrs Ted Holloway at No 3 Booth Street (the old house next to the present clubhouse) and decided to establish the Queanbeyan Golf Club for the purpose of conducting competitions. 90 years on and Queanbeyan Golf Club offers one of the best golfing experiences in the region and is the perfect venue for your next golfing function.
